Award-winning songwriter, Byron Blocker is a veteran of the Southern California music scene and a staple at the world famous Viper Room in Hollywood, CA. He is a triple graduate of Musician’s Institute and the founder of SoCal Records.
In 2011 Byron played more than 100 shows across Southern California. For two years running Byron Blocker & The Offbeats played the legendary Viper Room more than any other band and have monthly spots at Pikes inLong Beach (owned by members of Social Distortion).
After graduating Musician’s Institute respectively in guitar, music business, and then audio engineering, Byron became a sideman in several prominent California bands including The Bleeding Irish, The Wussy’s, and Carbine. He recently sang Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday” for a film being released later in the year as well as winning the Music Publishing Marathon through Musician’s Institute.
With his home in Los Angeles, CA, Byron began releasing his own original songs, getting heard on local/college radio. The tunes came out like Tom Waits and The Stray Cats got into a fist fight. Melodically haunted and upbeat, these tales of broken dreams and revenge echo the streets of Hollywood - dark and mean as the last whiskey of the night!
Aside from gigging most nights, Byron composes tracks for film/television, manages a record label, DJ’s, and releases electronic music under the name Buku Bantam.
All Indie. Hard Work. Mean Tunes.
